Happy Friday, loves! It’s been a wild week over here, so apologies for the Beer Face delay. I’m juggling being a new kitten mom (peep @Normthedragon on IG for copious Spynx kitty pics) and finalizing my consulting roster for Q4 so I can breathe easy until the new year. In a not-so-shocking turn of events, it turns out working for yourself is, well, WORK.
Since we’re hot on the heels of New York Fashion Week — which I purposely sat out this year as a mental health gift to myself — and knee deep in the rest of the European shows, beauty and fashion trends are appearing on the scene at an increasingly rapid clip. At this point in my life and career, I’m doing my best to try and be immune to the ebb and flow of what’s cool and instead stick to what feels the most like me. I’ve already dabbled in the trendiest of beauty trends — I had a chin length bob for years, even though it was high maintenance AF, and committed myself to keeping my nails long and claw-like, even though I actually find them extremely annoying for typing.
Now, I want my hair boob-grazing long and my nails short enough that even my nail tech asks “are you positive??” when I ask her to clip them all off. Both are already arguably hot looks for 2023, but you get the sentiment: wearing what makes you feel good as opposed to what the glossy mags say is popular is the surest way to develop your own personal beauty style — and give your wardrobe an entirely new look and feel.
That’s not to say you can’t find inspiration in the people around you. I live in the best city in the world for people watching, since New Yorkers never fail to deliver when it comes to eclectic grooming choices. So I thought I’d share a few of my personal beauty inspirations for the upcoming season, a time of year when I’m itching to revamp as many aspects of my life as my wallet, and mental capacity, can handle.
Are they trends? Only if you claim to see them on the heads and bodies of our culture’s buzziest trend-setters (and you very well might be able to). Rather, these are a curation of looks I’ve saved to spark my own beauty and style creativity since I, like most people, can feel when I’m caught in a rut and attracted to flashy trends in the hopes of feeling shiny and new again. Sometimes a fresh haircut or an appointment with your local nail salon is all you need to revamp your energy and sense of style, without buying a cartful of new clothing.
So, if you’re looking for a bit of your own seasonal inspiration to hit refresh on your beauty aesthetic for fall, take a gander at all the hair, makeup, and nail looks that have me booking non-stop beauty appointments over the next few weeks.
