If you didn’t already catch my incessant content spam, I crossed off a major beauty + career milestone last week. As a longtime reader and fan of Into The Gloss (I devoured those stories like a manifesto for life all through college), I was absolutely flabbergasted when their editor Daise messaged me about shooting a Top Shelf feature. With me. And all of my bananas crazy products covering my teeny Brooklyn apartment.
The shoot was delightful and the two hour conversation even more so. Even my cat Norman got the VIP treatment with a Top Shelf video all about his “beauty routine” (including his obsession with Hermès nail files — chic). So when Daise told me that the feature had to broken up into two parts — because I covered a whopping 138 products in total — I could barely believe it. I was humbled for sure, scared that people would think I’m an insane human, and grateful that my beauty career has brought me to such a tangible measure of success. With that being said, there is so much more to share when it comes to developing a beauty routine, and mine is no different.
The majority of the products that I mentioned in the story are my daily drivers, the formulas I reach for to maintain a certain level of glow in my skin, bounce in my curls, and snatched-ness (you get it) with my makeup. But beauty, thankfully, isn’t just about maintaining your body against its inevitable decay. It involves an element of fun that too often I think is lost in the current messaging about how to be shinier, smoother, and as youthful looking as possible. Beauty is about discovery and play, using products that help you to channel whatever character you feel like on a given day or week, which is why there are some things that are entirely impractical but still bring us endless amounts of joy simply because using them is such a damn delight.
